Assalamualaikum Wr. Wb.

Komunikasi merupakan poin penting yang tidak bisa lepas dalam kehidupan sehari-hari. Pada postingan kali ini saya akan membahas mengenai definisi komunikasi di tempat kerja. Dimana antar individu di dalam perusahaan memerlukan komunikasi untuk keberlangsungan aktivitas kerja di perusahaan. Komunikasi di tempat kerja ini sendiri bertujuan untuk mencapai apa yang diharapkan oleh perusahaan.

Berbicara mengenai definisi komunikasi, terdapat banyak sekali definisi yang telah dikemukakan. Namun pada dasarnya komunikasi memiliki arti yang sama, yaitu penyampaian informasi atau pesan dari satu pihak kepada pihak lain dengan tujuan penerima pesan memahami informasi atau pesan yang disampaikan. Dengan begitu, diharapkan informasi atau pesan yang disampaikan tidak menimbulkan kesalahpahaman antar kedua pihak.

Berikut adalah definisi komunikasi yang akan saya terjemahkan ke Bahasa Inggris dalam bentuk Simple Present Tense dan Simple Past Tense.

Pengertian Komunikasi

Kata komunikasi berasal dari kata Latin commūnicāre, yang berarti “untuk berbagi” (komunikasi non verbal dan verbal). Jadi, secara etimologi komunikasi adalah kegiatan menyampaikan makna melalui sistem tanda-tanda dan aturan semiotik.

Berdasarkan arti praktisnya, komunikasi adalah suatu proses pengiriman/penerimaan informasi, berita, atau pesan antara dua orang atau lebih dengan menggunakan cara yang tepat, sehingga informasi, berita, atau pesan yang dimaksud dapat dimengerti oleh keduanya.

Untuk lebih jelas lagi, berikut ini disajikan beberapa definisi komunikasi menurut para ahli:

1. Murphy (1957:5): “Komunikasi adalah seluruh proses yang digunakan dalam mencapai pikiran orang lain.”
2. Harwood (1953:74): “Komunikasi lebih teknis didefinisikan sebagai proses untuk meningkatkan perhatian orang lain dengan tujuan untuk membangun kembali ingatan.”

Berdasarkan definisi tersebut di atas dapat disimpulkan bahwa komunikasi adalah proses pengiriman atau penyampaian berita atau informasi dari satu pihak (komunikator) kepada pihak lain, (komunikan) dalam usaha untuk mendapatkan saling pengertian.

Definisi tersebut memberi pengertian yang sangat luas, oleh karena itu tidak hanya fokus pada segi manusia saja, tetapi juga proses, isi berita, dan alatnya.

The word communication is derived from Latin word, commūnicāre, which means “to share” (non verbal and verbal communication). So, etymologically communication is the activity of conveying a meaning through a shared system of signs and semiotic rules.

Based on the practical sense, communication is a process of sending/receiving of information, news, or messages between two people or more using a proper way, so that the information, news, or messages in question can be understood by both of them.

In addition, the following are some definitions of communication according to experts:

1. Murphy (1957:5):”Communication is the whole process used in reaching other minds.”
2. Harwood (1953:74): “Communication is more technically defined as a process to raise attention of others with the aim to re-establish memories.”

Based on the definition above, it can be concluded that communication is the process of sending or delivery of news or information from one party (communicator) to other party, (communicant) in attempt to gain mutual understanding.

This definition gives a very broad sense, therefore, not only focuses on the human aspect, but also on the process, the content of the news, and tools.
